Horror you wish you couldn't relate to.
About The Author

My name might be Kristoffer Ryan, a small-town Midwestern father, husband, veteran,
and enthusiast of anything scary. I don't have any awards; I don't have any bestsellers. I
only took one semester of college before having to retire to raise my four kids and take
care of my health. What I do have are scary stories to tell and an interesting life from
which I can draw plenty of inspiration. What I lack in formal training I think I make up for
with a desire to scare you and make you connect with characters that you might
otherwise overlook. I hope you enjoy one of my novels…stay scared.

Forced from his home by his conniving mother, Vincent finds himself alone and ill-
equipped to navigate a world where the Great Depression is reshaping life for nearly
everyone. Can he adapt? Can he survive?
As spirits soar and morale plummets amidst the rise of prohibition, a dark shadow
looms. A shadow that seems to follow the moonshiners who exploit the chaos to
establish illicit markets in small towns. Each new town Vincent stumbles into, he
encounters fresh threats in the form of suffering and fear. Starving, desperate, and
possibly pursued by a man with smooth-soled shoes, Vincent discovers unexpected aid
in a mysterious code imparted by an enigmatic old man with unclear intentions, whose
help he was in no shape to deny. This new eccentric mentor teaches Vincent about a
code used by hobos to navigate and survive. A Hobo’s Code which gives Vincent an
advantage and lessons on how to avoid danger and an ominous threat whispered about
in the shadows…the Moon King.
Perhaps, with grit and a few helping hands, he can forge a new path and mold himself
into the man he aspires to be. However, Vincent is about to learn that not all monsters
live in books...

For Drew—who unwillingly goes by Stickboy at school—monsters are everywhere.
It all started when his grandpa told him the unfinished story of the Sidehill Gougers. Ever since, it feels like something’s been following him. But in Drew’s small Midwest town, the Gougers might not be his biggest threat. There’s Banana Head, Moonface, the Can Man… even his family might not be entirely human.
Drew’s life becomes a never-ending maze of ruts, chokepoints, and traps. Every dark corner seems to be holding the potential for the monsters to strike. The harder he fights against the suffocating ruts of Midwest life and the monsters’ chokepoints, the tighter they pull him toward an inevitable, terrifying dead end.
Until Drew discovers what could be his salvation. Strangely, it looks a lot like the keys to an old ’74 Chevy Nova. But these keys might not just start an engine—they might unlock a means of escape.
Survival isn’t guaranteed in A Midwest Horror.
